Running a tournament takes a huge amount of time, energy and organization. Here, I’ll keep an up-to-date list of current standards for tournament rules, as well as brackets that you can download, and a list of major tournament sites. Arcana Heart: Full!

Capcom vs SNK 2

  • Round time is 99 Seconds.
  • Roll-Cancelling is allowed.
  • No EX Grooves are allowed.
  • No Duplicate Characters on a team.
  • In a multiple-match set, the winning player must retain Groove, Characters, Ratio and Team Order.
  • Evil Ryu, Wild Iori, Ultimate Rugal and Shin Akuma are not allowed.
  • Switching your Team Order is only allowed on the first match.

Dead or Alive 4

  • Version: 4.1 (Currently the most recent version)
  • Time: 60 seconds.
  • Rounds Per Match: 3 (Subject to debate)
  • Dangerzones: On*
  • Stages: Random Select
  • Banned Stages: Experimental Playground (Dinosaur Level)**
  • Matches per Set:

— Winner’s Finals: Best 3 out of 5.
– Loser’s Finals: Best 3 out of 5.
– Grand Finals: Best 4 out of 7.
– Everything Else: Best 2 out of 3.

*If the competitors land on Gambler’s Paradise or Savanna Safari (Car or Cheetah) then they have to return to the Character Select. Then, they can opt to either choose the stage again with Dangerzones selected Off, or choose Random Select again with Dangerzones selected On. Each player must agree, if there is no agreement then the competitors must face off in the Gambler’s Paradise or Savanna Safari stage with Dangerzones selected Off.

**If the competitors land on Experimental Playground then they must return to the Character Select Menu. Then, select Random Stage with Dangerzones On.

Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core

  • Matches are 2/3 Rounds.
  • #Reload characters, Kliff and Justice are not allowed.
  • EX, Gold and Shadow characters are not allowed.

The King of Fighters ‘98

  • Omega Rugal is not allowed.
  • All other alternate characters (Orochi, Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, etc) are allowed.
  • Duplicate characters are allowed if their versions are different(i.e.: Orochi Shermie and normal Shermie).
  • In a multiple-match set, the winning player must retain team characters and order.

The King of Fighters XI

Marvel vs. Capcom 2

  • Match Time is 99 Seconds.
  • Game Speed is Turbo 1.
  • Damage Setting is 2 (Default).
  • No freezing glitches (i.e.: Rubyheart) are allowed.
  • No time-out glitches (i.e.: Gambit) are allowed.
  • Infinite combos are allowed.
  • Dead-Body Infinites must be terminated upon reaching the edge of a stage.
  • Guard Breaks are allowed.
  • In-Game Macros are allowed. (Console version)
  • In a multiple-match set, the winning player must retain the same leader, but may change Assist order.
  • Duplicate Characters on a Team are not allowed.

Melty Blood: Act Cadenza ver.B

  • Matches are 2/3 Rounds
  • Match Time is 99 Seconds.
  • Infinites are allowed.
  • Neko Characters are allowed.
  • No Macro Keys are allowed. (PC version)
  • No Keyboard play allowed. (PC version)

Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike

  • Matches are 2/3 Rounds.
  • Matches are 99 Seconds.
  • Tied matches are determined by Judgment unless indicated otherwise.
  • Selecting Gill or use of System Direction is not allowed.
  • In a multiple-match set, a winning player must retain their previous character, but may change their Super Art.
  • In the case of a game-breaking glitch such as Ken-Makoto throw knockout, the match is recreated to the latest round and super meter gauge is approximated.
  • Non-breaking glitches are allowed, including but not limited to: Kara-cancels, Makoto’s head-butt, OTG supers and Aegis-style guard breaks.

Super Street Fighter II: Turbo (+HD Remix)

  • Game Speed is Turbo 3
  • Matches are 2/3 Rounds.
  • Repick if T.Hawk or Zangief stages are selected due to slowdown issues. (Console version)
  • Akuma (JPN:Gouki) is not allowed.
  • Original-version characters (No Super Meter) are allowed.

Super Smash Bros. Melee

  • Matches are 4x Stock, 6:00 Timer and No Items.
  • Sets are 2/3 Matches.
  • If both players can agree on a stage, that stage will be used. If there is conflict, then the rules below come into action.
  • Pool A: Final Destination, Kirby’s Dreamland 64, Battlefield,Yoshi’s Story, Pokemon Stadium, Fountain of Dreams.
  • Pool B: Mute City, Green Greens, Rainbow Cruise, Kongo Jungle 64, Brinstar, Poke Floats, Corneria, Jungle Japes.
  • The stage for Match 1 will be selected at random from pool A. Any games after that can be from pools A or B.
  • After the stage has been selected by the losing player, the winner of the previous game may change characters, but has to pick first.
  • No stage may be used twice in any given set.
  • Glitches used to stop your opponent from controlling their character or indefinitely freezing them (Mewtwo’s Soul Stunner, the Ice Climber freeze glitch), or any glitch or trick that freezes the game or makes it unable to be finished are banned and will result in the immediate forfeit of the entire match.
  • Tactics such as Peach’s Wallbombing and Jiggly’s Rising Pound are allowed as methods of recovery or to maneuver around the stage. Using them (or any similar tactics) to excessively stall a match, such as dropping below levels intentionally and stalling underneath, is banned. If by using one of these tactics, you have put your character in a place to lose a stock by ending the tactic, a judge may force you to stop and lose a life and continue the match short a stock.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection

  • Matches are 3/5 Rounds.
  • Matches are 60 Seconds.
  • Guard Damage is Off.
  • Stages are Random Select, or Blind Pick.
  • No Custom Accessories, Colors or Names are allowed.
  • Selecting Jinpachi is not allowed.

Tekken 6

  • Matches are 3/5 Rounds.
  • Matches are 60 Seconds.
  • Guard Damage is Off.
  • Stages are Random Select, or Blind Pick.
  • No Custom Accessories, Colors or Names are allowed.

Virtua Fighter 5

  • Matches are 3/5 Rounds.
  • No Custom Accessories, Colors or Names are allowed.
